What are the critical elements to getting the original firmware (update) working?

Is it just the serialnumber and the Realtek 8111e network card, or is there something else in the “special sauce”?

The software wants an eth0 or eth1, and /dev/sda or /dev/hdb, etc.. (depending on if you’re loading HS3 or HS4 software). (see the other topics around here)
I tried to virtualize the HS on Xenserver but always had problems with XenServer’s /dev/xvda1, etc. device names.

Why don’t you try a Hyper-V first? You can just load it into Windows10.

Yeah, I know about running it as a VM, but was wondering about what hardware is necessary to make the original firmware running?

As far as I can tell it is the right serialnumber and a realtek 8111 network card. Is this correct?
